Description:
Offered for sale is a charming vintage decorative figurine in the Capodimonte style depicting an elderly man sitting on a stone bench while reading a book. He is smoking a pipe, which adds a humorous and expressive character to the composition.
The figure is created in a genre style and features a highly expressive face with accentuated wrinkles and lively character. The old man is dressed in a dark grey worn jacket, grey waistcoat, pale grey trousers and dark boots. He wears a light-colored hat. In his hands he holds an open book with a red cover.
The base is designed as a stylized stone bench with a decorative plinth. Along the edge of the base there is a gilded ornament which has partially faded with age, a common characteristic of vintage decorative figurines.
Genre figurines of this type, produced in the mid-20th century in the Capodimonte style, were very popular decorative interior objects and today remain attractive collectibles for lovers of vintage ceramics and porcelain.
