Offered for sale is a rare porcelain figurine depicting Prince Eugene de Beauharnais, the adopted son of Napoleon Bonaparte, an outstanding military leader of the Napoleonic era and Viceroy of Italy.
The figurine is made of porcelain and carefully hand painted. The sculpture portrays Prince Eugene in a military uniform of the Napoleonic period. His pose conveys the dignity and confidence of a commander who took part in many of Napoleon’s campaigns.
Prince Eugene de Beauharnais (1781–1824) was one of Napoleon’s most loyal and capable commanders. In 1804 he became a divisional general and participated in numerous military campaigns, including the Russian campaign of 1812 where he commanded an Italian infantry corps. For many years he served as Viceroy of Italy and proved himself to be a wise and strong-willed ruler who earned the respect and affection of the people.
The figurine features careful hand painting, good detail of the uniform and characteristic historical styling. The base bears the inscription "PRINCE EUGENE".
